
Mahesh Parmar is Professor of Medical Statistics and
Epidemiology at University College London, and since 2010 has been
the Director of the MRC Clinical Trials Unit. He is also Director
of the Hub for Trials Methodology, formed in 2009, as part of the
MRC Clinical Trials Unit.
He has been an Associate Director of the
National Cancer Research
Network since its inception in 2001, an organisation which
has more than doubled the number of patients going into cancer
studies in England.
He joined the MRC in 1987. From 1998 to 2010 he was Head
of the Cancer Group at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit. He is an
applied statistician and aims to tackle key issues in the treatment
of different cancers, both by conducting clinical trials and through
innovative designs and methodology. A particular interest is how,
through clinical trials, to improve outcomes across a range of
cancers as rapidly as possible. He has expanded his work beyond
cancer and become in involved in trials in prisons and stem cell
therapy.
