We are at the forefront of resolving internationally important questions.

The Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit (MRC CTU) at UCL is at the forefront of resolving internationally important questions in infectious diseases and cancer, and delivering swifter and more effective translation of scientific research into patient benefits. It does this by carrying out challenging and innovative studies, and developing and implementing methodological advances in study design, conduct and analysis.

We design and conduct clinical trials.

We design and conduct innovative and challenging clinical trials. We bring together the results of a number of trials which look at the same illness or condition (this is called a systematic review or meta-analysis). We also undertake observational studies to evaluate the impact of new interventions in routine care.

We are a registered Clinical Trials Unit at the UKCRC Registered CTUs Network.

Put methodology firmly at the heart of our work

We carry out methodological research to help us improve how studies are designed, conducted and analysed. This innovation is inspired by challenges faced by our studies, and helps ensure scientific progress is translated into clinical benefit more rapidly and effectively.

Our Structure

We employ around 250 staff and we are currently co-ordinating around 60 trials and meta-analyses.
